All the paintings have the same vertical format and are in one of two sizes: 78” x 48” or 50” x 32”.  In order to suggest that the paintings are an extension of the viewer’s space, the horizon line is always at the viewer’s eye level, and the larger paintings hang close to the floor.  I apply the paint to the canvas with my hand (I only use brushes for details smaller than a finger), and I build the surface of the painting from many thin, transparent layers over an extended period of time. Through the immediate and tactile contact with the surface of the painting I control the quality of the paint film.  The surface is smooth, color modulations are seamless, edges are soft and the transparency of the paint film increases the luminosity.
